Watercolor Next Steps is a skill-building class designed for students who have completed a beginner watercolor course or have a basic understanding of watercolor materials and color mixing.
This class focuses on moving beyond exercises and into more intentional, confident painting. Students will deepen their understanding of water control, value, color temperature, layering, and composition, while learning how to create paintings that feel cohesive rather than overworked.
Each class includes short demos, guided practice, and supportive discussion, with an emphasis on process over perfection. Students will learn how to:
Control water and edges for clearer, more intentional results
Layer watercolor without muddying colors
Use value and color temperature to create mood and depth
Simplify composition and make stronger design choices
Build confidence and trust their artistic instincts
This class encourages experimentation, thoughtful decision-making, and creative growth in a welcoming, judgment-free environment. By the end of the session, students will have a stronger technical foundation and greater confidence in their ability to start and finish watercolor paintings.
