Art, Music & New Work: Find Me at Art on Main in Ball Ground

September is shaping up to be a busy month, and this is one event I’m especially excited about.

I’ll be at Art on Main in downtown Ball Ground, Georgia, September 12–13 from 11 AM–6 PM.

Art on Main brings together artists, makers, live music, food, and one of my favorite things—wandering around a great little downtown looking at interesting stuff.

Honestly, they had me at art and live music.

What I’m Bringing

I'll have a mix of original paintings, fine art prints, and my frameable art cards, including plenty of familiar favorites.

But I'll also be bringing something new.

Over the past several weeks, I've been working on a collection of mixed-media paintings inspired by the connection between music and memory.

I've been thinking about the strange way a song can transport us. A few notes can suddenly put you back in a car you haven't owned in thirty years, beside someone you haven't thought about in ages, or inside a version of yourself you almost forgot existed.

Some of these paintings began with my own memories. Others grew from stories people have shared with me. And some have surprised me by becoming something completely different from what I thought I was painting when I started.

Art on Main will be the first time I'll have this new work together and out in the world.

I'm pretty excited about that.

Music, Art & Stories

One of my favorite parts of selling my work in person is hearing the stories a painting brings out in someone else.

That's especially true with this new work.

Tell someone you're painting memories connected to music and it doesn't take long before you hear:

"Oh my God, there's this one song..."

And then comes the story.

A concert. A first boyfriend. A road trip. A parent. A terrible breakup. A summer they'll never forget.

That's becoming just as interesting to me as making the paintings themselves.
