🌿 🎨 Blog Post: Getting Ready for Mayfest (and Why Art Festivals Still Matter)

There’s something about an art festival that just feels different.

Maybe it’s being outside.Maybe it’s the energy of people walking around, discovering things they didn’t even know they were looking for.Or maybe it’s the simple joy of seeing art in person—not through a screen, but right there in front of you.

This Saturday, I’ll be set up at Mayfest in downtown Carrollton, and I’ve been spending the past few days getting everything ready.

🎨 The Behind-the-Scenes

Preparing for a festival always feels like a mix of excitement and a little bit of chaos.

There are paintings to choose from, prints to organize, displays to think through… and at some point, everything ends up spread out across the house while I try to decide what makes the most sense to bring.

It’s funny—when you’re working in the studio, it’s quiet. It’s just you and the painting.

But getting ready for an event like this is a completely different experience. It’s about thinking ahead:

  • What people might connect with

  • What tells the story of your work

  • What feels cohesive as a collection

It’s a different kind of creative process.

🌿 Why I Still Love Art Festivals

Even with everything happening online these days, there’s something really special about showing up in person.

You get to:

  • talk to people about your work

  • hear what they see in it

  • watch someone connect with a piece in real time

And sometimes, those conversations are the best part.

Art festivals remind me that what we create doesn’t just live in our studios—it becomes part of someone else’s space, someone else’s story.

🎭 Bringing the Work Into the World

A lot of the work I’ll have with me started as quiet moments—paintings inspired by nature, light, memory, or just the feeling of a place.

Seeing those pieces leave the studio and go out into the world always feels a little bit like letting go… but also like they’re finally doing what they were meant to do.

📍 Come Visit Me at Mayfest

If you’re in the area, I’d love for you to stop by.

Mayfest📍 Adamson Square, Carrollton, GA🗓 Saturday, May 2🕘 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM

There will be hundreds of vendors, local food, and plenty to explore throughout downtown. It’s one of Carrollton’s most popular events, and it’s easy to see why.

I’ll have original watercolor and mixed media pieces, prints, and a few favorites from the studio.

💛 A Final Thought

Art doesn’t just happen on the page.

It happens in the sharing, the conversations, and the moments when someone sees something in your work that you didn’t even realize was there.

That’s what I’m looking forward to this weekend.
