DeElla Hoberg is excited to announce new sessions of her popular Beginner Watercolor course at the Cumming Arts Center this summer and fall.
Designed specifically for absolute beginners, this six-week hands-on watercolor class helps students build confidence step by step in a relaxed, supportive environment. Whether you’ve never picked up a paintbrush before or you’re returning to creativity after years away, this course is designed to make watercolor approachable, enjoyable, and inspiring.
Over the six weeks, students will learn the foundational skills needed to begin painting with watercolor, including:
How to set up a watercolor palette
Understanding watercolor paper and materials
Water control techniques
Wet-on-wet painting
Wet-on-dry techniques
Dry brush texture
Basic brushwork
Color mixing
Creating simple finished paintings
Each class includes demonstrations, guided exercises, and small projects designed to help students experience success while learning at their own pace.
DeElla’s teaching style focuses on encouragement, process over perfection, and helping students feel comfortable experimenting and growing creatively. By the end of the course, students will leave with a collection of studies, completed paintings, and the confidence to continue their watercolor journey.
