Fire Woman
Some songs don't just remind us of a moment in our lives. They take us right back to the person we were when we first heard them.
Fire Woman was inspired by one of those memories.
The summer between my freshman and sophomore years of high school, a boy from California came to visit my next-door neighbor. He was a year older, impossibly cool, and introduced us to The Cult's album Electric.
My friend Sara and I were hooked. We headed to Tower Records, bought what we could afford, and copied cassettes so we could share the music with each other. It was the kind of discovery that made the world suddenly feel a little bigger, louder, and more exciting.
That feeling stayed with me.
In Fire Woman, a headphone-wearing silhouette becomes a vessel for the music itself. Fiery oranges, reds, and golds rise through the figure, surrounded by expressive marks, layered textures, and rhythmic details that suggest the almost physical energy of a song that gets under your skin.
The contrast between the dark silhouette and the glowing interior captures the way music can ignite something within us—confidence, excitement, rebellion, or simply the thrill of discovering something new.
Part of my Music & Memories collection, this original mixed-media painting celebrates those unforgettable musical discoveries that become woven into our personal histories.
Because sometimes all it takes is one song to set something on fire.
