**Fire Woman — Inspired by The Cult** Some songs don't just bring back memories. They bring back the person you were when you first heard them. *Fire Woman* was inspired by the music of The Cult and a summer between my freshman and sophomore years of high school. A cute boy from Los Angeles, visiting my next-door neighbor, introduced us to the band's album *Electric*. He was a year older, infinitely cooler, and had brought music that sounded like nothing we'd heard before. My friend Sara and I promptly headed to Tower Records, bought what we could afford, and copied cassettes so we could share the music. It was one of those moments when a song becomes forever tangled up with a particular time, place, and feeling. In this mixed-media painting, a silhouette wearing headphones contains a blaze of fiery reds, oranges, and golds. Radiating marks, handwritten fragments, and expressive layers capture the electricity of discovering music that makes you feel completely alive. *Fire Woman* is about youthful discovery, the intensity of music, and the memories that still burn brightly decades later. **Art You Can Feel, Stories You Can Hang.**
