Centerfield
Every musician has a moment they never forget.
For my friend Gerry, one of those moments was playing drums with his band, Centerfield, at the legendary 40 Watt Club in Athens, Georgia, during the 1980s.
Centerfield was inspired by his story and by the electric atmosphere of live music—the anticipation before a performance, the energy between musicians and their audience, and the memories that remain long after the stage lights go dark.
A glowing light bulb illuminates a drum kit against a dramatic background of deep purples and blacks. Radiating lines of light suggest the explosive energy of a live performance, while the contrast between darkness and illumination captures that extraordinary feeling of stepping into the spotlight.
Part of my Music & Memories collection, this original mixed-media painting celebrates the musicians who pour themselves into their craft, whether they're playing to thousands of people or a packed little club.
Because sometimes the most unforgettable performances aren't the ones that make history. They're the ones that become part of our own.
