Box of Rain
Sometimes music feels like coming home.
Box of Rain was inspired by the extraordinary sense of community surrounding the Grateful Dead and the way their concerts became something more than performances. For many Deadheads, gathering to hear the music felt almost like going to church—a place of belonging, connection, and shared experience.
That idea became the heart of this painting.
A simple church silhouette stands against a moody night sky, its steeple illuminated by a gentle glow. Within the church, rain becomes a symbol of emotion, release, and renewal. The contrast between the dark exterior and the lighter interior suggests that even in the midst of life's storms, we can find shelter in the things that bring us together.
Part of my Music & Memories collection, this original mixed-media painting explores the almost spiritual relationship we can have with music. The songs that comfort us. The people we meet along the way. The moments when a room full of strangers suddenly feels like family.
Box of Rain is about finding sanctuary in sound—and remembering that sometimes the most meaningful places aren't places at all.
