We are on our last full day in Punta Cana for my 50th birthday trip. My husband and I went to the pool early this morning to scope out a shady spot by the pool. After our massage (I know, gag, this is my big vacation not my everyday life -don’t judge) we went for a dip and posted up by the pool.
Even though I am on vacation, I am committed to my self imposed 50 day challenge. On day 2, I wrote some but in all honesty, I spent more of my 30 minutes looking at writing prompts than writing. I can do better and yet, here I am writing! Winning!
I walked, swam and did pool Zumba today. I didn’t finish the Zumba class because the instructor started a conga line. There were strangers massaging each other and then the instructor was basically twerking while leading the dance line. I was sure several ladies of a certain age were going to have a heart attack over the fine young instructor. Anyway, exercise challenge, day 2, complete.

As for the painting, I sat on my shady lounger and painted what was literally in front of me. I’m not an expert on tropical landscapes and I don’t even know if I like what I painted. That being said, I enjoyed the process very much. I also got some good feedback from my fellow pool people. Well, at least I know that the thumbs up and “linda” was good. The next was a bit more intense. My broken Spanish and my pool neighbor’s no-English plus his apparent desire to purchase the incomplete painting led to an awkward exchange of website and WhatsApp information. Meanwhile, my husband and son were in the pool teasing me because they thought I was getting picked up at the pool!
The best feedback I got today was from my son. He said he really likes the scene and he wants it for his souvenir from this trip. I know, he will feel this trip every time he sees this painting.
Tomorrow is day 3, and a travel day. Taxi, plane, train and car. I am curious to see how I manage to stick to the challenge. Or should I manifest; challenge accepted! ( I am such a dork)
